What are cookies?

Cookies are files placed by a website on your device. They serve various purposes, but cookies are necessary for most websites to function properly. They allow a website to recognize you immediately when you revisit it, enabling features such as automatic login.

Why does clearing cookies help when I can't log in?

Often, technical issues are caused by a cookie on your device that contains outdated or incorrect information. By clearing cookies, your device forgets the outdated information. Subsequently, your device is forced to download a new cookie from the website you visit, containing up-to-date information.

How do I delete my cookies?

The process varies depending on your browser. We will cover the main browsers below.

Google Chrome:

Delete all cookies:

1. Click on the three vertical dots in the toolbar on the top right of your browser.
2. Go to 'Settings.'
   
3. Click on 'Clear browsing data.'
4. Ensure that 'Cookies and other site data' is checked. Other items do not need to be checked.
5. Click on 'Clear data.'

Delete cookies from a specific website:

1. Make sure you are on the website in question.
2. Click on the icon with the three vertical dots next to the 'Refresh' button in the address bar.
   
3. Click on 'Cookies and site data.'
4. Click on 'Manage cookies and site data.'
5. Check all the trash cans, and then click 'Done.'
6. Refresh the page.

Delete all cookies:

1. Click on the three horizontal dots on the top right.
2. Click on 'Settings.'
   
3. Go to 'Privacy, search, and services.'
4. Scroll to 'Clear browsing data.'
5. Click on 'Choose what to clear.'
6. Make sure 'Cookies and other site data' is checked.
   
7. Click on 'Clear now.'

Delete cookies from a specific website:

1. Go to 'Settings' as described above.
2. Go to 'Cookies and site permissions.'
3. Click on 'Manage and delete cookies and site data.'
4. Go to 'See all cookies and site data' and find the website you want to delete cookies from.
5. Click on the downward arrow, and then click 'Delete.'

2. Click on 'History.'
3. Click on 'Clear recent history.'
4. Make sure the time range to clear is set to 'Everything.'
5. Ensure that 'Cookies' is checked.

4. Click on 'Manage Data.'

A few things to consider:

When you delete all your cookies, you will also be logged out of all your social media accounts and other websites where you are logged in. This is because you are effectively forcing your computer to forget this information. Be aware of this and make sure you know all your passwords. Most passwords can be reset by sending a reset email to yourself, but your accounts must be linked to an email address you can access at all times.
